Manufacturing

Signage: Channel Letters

Channel Letters are used in both interior and exterior locations. They are commonly used in interior mall locations. Each letter, including logos, are individually shaped, providing a more sophisticated and architectural feel. Because each letter is hand made, they are manufactured to match exactly the letter style that is part of the corporate image.

SIGNSHOP has recently invested in state-of-the-art CAD/CAM equipment for the manufacturing of channel letters. While reducing manufacturing costs and increasing quality, we continue to deliver a more competitive, valuable product to our customers.In a majority of cases channel letters are installed on the bulkhead above the store entrance, and meet the design requirements of both the individual tenant, and the developer or property manager. Up until a few short years ago, individual letters were illuminated by neon lighting that involved creating patterns and bending neon to fit inside each letter. Certain letter styles, because of elements like serifs, were difficult to light with neon, because getting the tube in and out of small spaces was limited by the size of the neon tube. In addition, the letter had to be a certain depth so that the light from the neon tube would illuminate the face of the letter evenly.

Fascia Signage

Exterior Fascia Signs are generally of two types: Sign cabinets with flexible vinyl or plastic faces, and individual channel letters. For many applications the sign cabinet is used because it can be manufactured less expensively than individual letters and yet provides a high degree of advertising value and identification both day and night.

The size and scope of fascia signs varies a great deal. They may designate a particular business in a strip mall location, or may identify a business occupying an entire building. In each case the size, placement, and graphics applications can play a significant role in determining just how effective the sign can be.

Fascia signs may also be located high above the city landscape, identifying key corporate locations in the city’s core. Size, placement, engineering, electrical issues, and installation all become very important factors.

Signage: Graphic Applications

SIGNSHOP specializes in a variety of methods that we use to apply graphics, and we utilize a variety of surfaces that the graphics are adhered to.

Your sign program may be prescribed, in which case we execute against the criteria by matching colour and copy requirements, often making recommendations that involve better and more cost-effective product applications.

For a number of our customers, the treatments of the graphics and copy on the sign have yet to be determined. This is where SIGNSHOP sales and design team can help by providing solid recommendations and professional layout, all illustrated and presented using state-of-the-art computer aided design and presentation tools.

SIGNSHOP has large format digital printing that can reproduce graphics in a way that wasn't possible ten years ago. Printing can be done directly to flexible vinyl substrates, acrylic, or lexan. Colour matches are exact and letter style and stroke are precise.

LED signage

LED signs are environmentally-friendly and use less energy. They will last four times as long as other signs and still give the great back-lit look of a neon sign. LED signs are mercury-free. More and more companies are turning to this green alternative that still looks great. The options available for LED electronic signs are endless.

These are basic storefront ID signs that have been typically back-lit with fluorescent lighting for many years. With recent advancements in LED technology it is now affordable to illuminate these sign with LED's or even convert your existing sign cabinet to LED to help cut down on servicing and energy costs.

Window Signs

Perfect for that last message you want to give the customer before they enter your place of business. A great fit for messages geared to impulse shoppers and window shoppers. Since the window signs are located in the window of your business, you can bypass required permits for signage.

Message Centre Installation & Training

For every message centre installation, SIGNSHOP provides in-house training for our clients to ensure that they are fully capable of programming the sign - after all, dynamic displays of this kind should be updated frequently so that the passing motorists continue to find the display interesting and informative.

The result is better communication and a reinforcement of the static corporate identity on the fixed part of the sign.

Message Centres are capable of animation and exciting graphic presentations, and many models will even accommodate showing digital files developed for other media such as television.

Signage Innovation
sign re-development, signage innovationIn may seem strange to some people that we highlight signage INNOVATION as a service, but our experience in the industry points to a lot of companies that take the path of least resistance, producing the same kinds of displays in the same old way, year after year.
Very often, having sign displays that work optimally for our customers means that following the same old path won’t achieve the desired results. For example, we have encountered situations where the placement of the building relative to the viewing angle of traffic doesn’t provide for optimal viewing. SIGNSHOP has recommended, designed and engineered structures to overcome these shortcomings to the customer’s benefit.

Another example of innovation is the sign re-development of certain signage types, like channel letters. Many sign companies continue to use neon lighting in channel letters signage (individually lit letters). Neon is both expensive to make and expensive to operate. And repairs take time to achieve.

SIGNSHOP has innovated the use of LED lighting. We now produce channel letters that have a slimmer, more attractive profile, have a higher luminosity, and more uniform lighting on the face of the letter.

In addition, repairs are minimized and when necessary, are less expensive.

Other award winning signage innovations include our design for imitation brick bases for signs and an innovative sales tool that allows customers to see what a Message Centre would look like on their site before they ever commit to buy one!
